Match Related Questions Can I play anyone if I am unranked? Yes, when you are unranked you can play anyone on the Ladder regardless of their rank. If you play another user who is unranked, the winner of the match becomes ranked. What is laddering? Laddering is just a one on one match between two players. The loser of the match reports the loss to the ladder. This is done by clicking on Report Loss on our main page - entering in your user name and password which brings up another page that you enter in the name of the person that won the match. I need to post my win. Where do I do this? You don't! On the Ladder, only the LOSER of a match reports. When that person reports, your account you will be credited The person I was playing disconnected! What should I do? If a match should get
disconnected and there is no way to continue the match you should talk to the
person you played either in chat or via e-mail and decide who would have won or
agree to a rematch. What should I do if someone does not report a match? Most unreported matches are a simple case of forgetfulness on the part of your opponent. If your opponent has not reported your match within an hour of the match you should send him a friendly E-mail reminder to report the loss. In most cases this is all that is needed to get your opponent to post. Ranking Why does my rank drop even when I win? How much
or IF your rank rises or falls is mainly based on the rank of the opponents you
beat as long as you are an active player. You move up half the distance between
your rank and the person's you defeat, so the higher ranked your opponent is the
further you will move up the Ladder if you win the match. Why did my rank drop so far when I took time off from playing? When someone who is ranked below you wins a match and that player's new rank is above yours, you will slide down one rank on the Ladder. On a very large and active Ladder, this movement can cause a substantial drop in rank even after only one a short period of inactivity. Tournaments What is a tournament? A tournament is a short-term competition with a scheduled beginning and a specific end. Players must register to play in a tournament. How can I find out what tournaments are available on my Ladder? For a complete list of tournaments for your Ladder or League, select the 'Tournament Calendar' link that is located under the tournament listing on the main page www.myleague.com/ballstothewall and on the left-hand side menu under the ‘Tournaments' heading How do I sign up for a tournament? Select the 'Tournament Calendar' link that is located on our main Balls to the Wall page under the tournament listing on the left-hand side menu under the ‘Tournaments' heading. On a tournament's main page, click the 'Register' link and fill out the form to register for the tournament. What does Jump # mean? If you are already in the game room and the TD gives out a "jump number" you can enter this number into the "Jump Box" on our main page to open the tournament registration page. When registering for a tournament, simply enter your username and password then click the Rules box. This will take you to a registration verification page - and that's it - you're in. Will the TD take me out if I don't get in the room? The TD will only remove you from a teams tournament. If you do not make it into the room for any other tournament you will NOT be taken out. We ask that you do not jump into the tournaments until you are already in the room. THE TOURNAMENT PAGE The tournament page will give you the details or the tournament such as the type, location, time, TD, etc. The links on the top of the page are described as follows:
You can withdraw from a tournament BEFORE it starts as follows: Go to the Register link, enter user name and password, click on rules box and click the Withdrawal button - It will bring you to another page asking if you are sure, the click yes. **Please note: There are rare circumstances that you will register for a tournament before "Check-In" has opened. In the case you will need to return the tournament page check-in after the TD has opened Check-In. To do this, click on the "Teams" link at the top. There will be a scroll box at the top of the page with the players names who need to check-in. Simply scroll to your name and enter your password beneath it. What is the difference between Regular Swiss, True Swiss, Single Elimination (S/E), and Double Elimination (D/E)? These tournaments are described as follows: Single Elimination - In Single Elimination tournaments you play each round until you lose one. Once you lose one, you are out. Double Elimination - In this type of tournament you have to lose two matches before you are eliminated. After you lose your first match, your team then moves into the lower bracket. You continue playing matches in that lower bracket until you receive your second loss, at which point you are out of the tournament. However, if you win all the matches in the lower bracket you then play the winner of the upper bracket. Since the winner of the upper bracket has not yet lost, the winner of the lower bracket must beat the winner of the upper bracket twice in order to win the tournament. The winner of the upper bracket only needs to win one of the two matches to win the tournament. If the winner of the upper bracket wins the first game then no second game is required. Regular Swiss -In Swiss System format, the tournament is completed when there is only one player remaining who is undefeated. The number of rounds is set before the tournament in order to specify a maximum number of players. If the tournament is set for six rounds, this does not guarantee there will be six rounds of play because players withdrawing from the tournament may shorten the rounds required to reach a single undefeated player. If for some reason after the given number of rounds has been played and there is still more than one undefeated player the tournament will be extended in order to determine a winner. True Swiss- In True Swiss System format, the number of rounds is preset by the TD before the tournament starts and regardless of the number of participants, the number of rounds does not change once the tournament begins. After all the rounds are complete the player with the most points wins. If there is no conclusive point leader there is no winner of the tournament. What if the game room is full? If a tournament room is full you can use one of the direct links on our main page. These are "Backdoor" links which can usually let you gain access to rooms that are full. You can also try other backdoor sites such as www.sneekin.com, www.backdoors.to and www.mybackdoors.com. It also helps to bookmark game rooms for easier access. What should I do if I believe a mistake was made during a tournament that I was playing in? You should immediately bring it to the attention of the TD who is hosting the tourney. In most instances the mistake will be handled immediately as the TD has the tools with which to verify scores if that is the mistake that has occurred. How is it decided who plays and who gets a bye? The matches are randomly generated by Cases Ladder and there is always a bye if the number of registered players is uneven. As to who gets the bye in Single Elimination tourney's it is random. However in a Swiss tourney - other than the first bye - the bye normally goes to a player that has not won a match. Why after registering for a tourney I was removed from the game? In most instances this happens when you do not have enough buxx to play. Please ask the host in the room to gift or have someone gift buxx to you so that you will be able to play in the next tourney. I received an e-mail invitation to play in a TOC, what is this? If you have received an invitation to play in a Tourney of Champions that is because you have won a tourney in the prior week. We have Team TOC, Swiss TOC, S/E TOC and Bowling TOC's. If you are invited you need not register as you are already registered, however you must check in. If you are not checked in you will automatically be removed from the tourney. How are tournament matches reported? If a tournament is 'LadderStats,' matches will be automatically reported to the Ladder on which the tournament was held after the tournament is completed. What is a LadderStats tournament? If a tournament is listed as a 'LadderStats' tourney, as most are, it indicates that the results from the matches played in that tournament are automatically posted to the Ladder at the end of the tournament, so do not attempt to report the loss yourself manually to the Ladder What time should I show up to play in a tournament? You should arrive at least 15 minutes early to be sure that you are signed up, checked-in and ready to play. How do I figure out where the tournament is being played? On a tournament page you will see all of the pertinent information listed under the 'Tournament Info' heading, including the location of the tournament. If you have any additional questions or problems on the location, you should contact the Tournament Director for help. There are links to all rooms that we play in on our main balls to the wall page.
HOSTING What is required to be a Host? If you are interested in hosting tournaments the first step that you must take is to fill out a TD application. You will find a link on our main page for that purpose. Once you have applied and if you are approved you will undergo full training in all aspects of hosting tourney's - Single Elimination - Swiss - Team - etc. Do I need to be a premium member in order to host? No - being a premium member is not necessary in order to be a TD.
